The Problem
The problem with the analysis tab lies in the limited functionality of the overview screen, which primarily served as a gateway to sub screens. Paired with poor color contrast in charts, hindering accessibility, and the lack of hierarchy in information presentation, resulting in difficulty in quickly accessing critical statistics.
The Solution
The solution to this problem involves a comprehensive overhaul of the information architecture and hierarchy within the analysis tab. This includes emphasizing key statistics, implementing new color charts compliant with accessibility standards, and introducing features such as a floating action button and redesigned filters to facilitate easier data filtering and navigation.
Usability Review
Business & User frustrations
Concerns regarding usability and missing features piled up in the help desk.
Colors that are primarily used for displaying intensity zones are not fit for other charts and lack color contrast.
The analysis overview screen mostly helps to go to other views but doesn't give useful information on its own.
Competitor Benchmarking
In the competitor analysis, I looked at direct and indirect competitors. My focus was primarily on applications presenting complex information via charts and statistics.
Problem Space
I’ve formed a "how might we" question to explore solutions that address these issues comprehensively.
How might we address the limited functionality of the analysis tab's overview screen, enhance color contrast in charts for improved accessibility, and establish a clear hierarchy of information to enable users to easily identify and prioritize key statistics?
Ideation
The information architecture of the analysis tab requires restructuring to optimize navigation and prioritize essential statistics for improved user comprehension.
What can we add
We can incorporate emphasized statistic values to provide clarity and highlight key information on the overview screen of the analysis tab.
What can we improve
We can tweak the color contrast in charts to ensure better accessibility and readability for all users.
New information architecture
A restructured blueprint that clusters related charts that can additionally complement one another.
New chart colors
An innovative spectrum of shades specifically designed for charts. When utilized in matching duos, contrast is always assured.
High Fidelity Prototype
The final prototype displays a number of different use and edge cases, such as single and multi-discipline training plans, empty and fail states, as well as scroll behavior.
Key learnings
A design system is never done and needs to be adapted for a growing product.
When everything is important, nothing is important. De-emphasizing is as important as emphasizing.
Next steps
What follows is allowing users to accumulate sufficient hands-on experience with the newly unveiled analysis tab for conducting usability tests. Back in the rapidly evolving start-up environment, there's often another significant task pending.
